Baked in Berrima, Berrima

On our recent trip to Canberra, we stopped by Berrima in the Southern Highlands to visit Baked in Berrima.

Baked in Berrima is an artisan bakery run by the General Store & Cafe, which is located around the corner from the bakery itself.

They feature and open kitchen with a wide selection of baked goods.

Pork and Fennel Roll ($7.00). Served warm, the filling was juicy and flavourful with a strong fennel seed flavour, while the pastry was flaky and buttery.

Dropped Pan Cookie ($5.00). This was a crispy cookie with a generous amount of good-quality chocolate chunks. While the sugar content was high, it was delicious.

Cinnamon Scroll ($6.00). Warmed to eat, the butter between the flaky layers of pastry had an odd salty and oily mouthfeel, as if there were too much butter for the dough to hold. We were disappointed as it looked so promising.

Sfogliatella ($6.00). The crisp, small, thin layers of pastry here were very impressive, with the interior filled with a thick custard speckled with orange zest. The sweetness here was well balanced and the texture impeccable.

Apple Turnover ($6.00). We ate this one without warming it up, which led to a rather dense buttery mouthfeel. It would’ve been better warmed up, but would not have solved the lack of apple filling within.

Overall, Baked in Berrima was well worth stopping by en route to Canberra with it being a mere 5 minutes off the main highway. While some items were more enjoyable than others, we would visit again.

Baked in Berrima is located at 118 Wingecarribee St, Berrima NSW 2577.
