Whenever something claims to be ‘old style’, there’s an expectation that it goes back to the original flavour before it was tweaked for modern tastebuds. This here is Bickford’s Old Style Lemon Lime Bitters, a lemon lime bitters that’s different from the translucent orange colour that we expect.

The soft drink was a translucent warm pink colour with a sweet citrus nose and moderation carbonation. Served chilled, a sugary sweetness emerged in the head of each sip before gentle citrus notes of lemon and lime develop in the body to counter the sweetness with a slightly aromatic finish of bitters. The citrusy sweetness lingered on the palate.
Overall, the drink lacked body, tasting like a watered down citrus cordial with added sugar and without the refreshingly crisp and aromatic bitters in the Angostura Lemon Lime and Bitters. ‘Old style’ may not be better after all.
This Bickford’s Old Style Lemon Lime Bitters contained 275 ml. It was bottled in Australia and purchased in Sydney Australia in 2017.
