Everyday Espresso opened in Redfern in late 2017 with the formerly hatted chef, Tomislav Martinovic, writing the all-day-breakfast menu.
It’s a sweltering summer day, so N goes for the Soba Omelette ($15.90). This is a ‘three-egg omelette, green soba noodles, raw enoki, nori sheets, fried shallots and light soy dressing.
This soba dish was an enjoyably light meal for a hot day, with N enjoying the enoki and the herb selection in particular. The omelette itself was decent, although she thought it’d have generated more interest if the enoki and herbs were mixed into it.
The weather is oppressive but I cannot resist the Coops Benny ($16.90) with a ‘brasserie croissant, fried egg, yuzu hollandaise, streaky bacon, buttermilk fried chicken and sesame seeds.
The yuzu hollandaise was what drew me to this dish, and I’m afraid I could detect no hint of yuzu in the hollandaise, which did have its characteristically tangy flavour. Yuzu disappointments aside, the egg was perfectly sunny side up, while the croissant is huge, but even so, its size cannot contain all the fried chicken to allow be able to eat the croissant without cutlery. The highlight, though, is the fried chicken.
The serving of fried chicken is generous with super crispy batter covering morsels of juicy thigh meat.
Directly across the road from Redfern Station, Everyday Espresso is a convenient spot for a tasty bite.
