I’m a huge fan of limited edition items, and this Nissin Foods Cup Noodle Potenage Big was released around Japan when we visited in February. It draws inspiration from fast food staples – it’s red and yellow colour scheme an unmistakable reminder of the Golden Arches – with potato and nuggets. This ‘Big’ size adds 17 g of dehydrated weight to regular Cup Noodle.
The ingredients list noodles along with a spicy black pepper soup and toppings involving scrambled eggs, green onions, and of course, the chicken nuggets and peeled potatoes (representing French fries).
As with usual Cup Noodle, the noodles are prepared by adding hot water up to the line on the inside of the cup and leaving covered for 3 minutes.
The Potenage Big smells savoury without a defining aroma that distinguishes it from regular Cup Noodle. Indeed, the smell reminded us of Nissin Chikin Ramen. Upon tasting, the soup is peppery without being hot or spicy, and the noodles have a familiar bite but do not soak up flavour from the soup, unfortunately.
The toppings, though, were a delectable highlight. The eggs were fluffy and full of eggy flavour like real scrambled eggs, while the tiny pieces of chicken nugget were packed flavour and bite and covered with a fragrant spiced batter. The pieces of potato tasted like real baked potato, though soft and without the crisp of French fries. We enjoy these noodles for its toppings.
This Nissin Foods Cup Noodle Potenage Big contained 94 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2018.
