Lupicia Chestnut Green Tea

There’s nothing quite like the sweet nutty warmth of roasted chestnuts on a late autumn afternoon. And this Lupicia Chestnut Green Tea, which is available only in the autumn months, is the perfect beverage for those cool days heading into and out of winter.

The loose leaf is a mix of green tea and small cubes of candied chestnuts.

Steeping 3 g of the tea leaf in 200 mL of water at 80°C, the infusion was a clear yellow-green colour with a sweet nutty aroma. Served hot, the vegetal notes of steamed Japanese tea appears briefly at the head of each sip before giving way to the earthy nuttiness of the chestnut that developed to a gentle sweet nuttiness in the finish. The sweetness is natural, recalling a sophisticated toffee, and lingered in the aftertaste with minimal astringency from the green tea. It’s a comforting and elegant tea with a smoother, round mouthfeel than a straight green tea.

This Lupicia Chestnut Green Tea contained 50 g. The tea was sourced from Japan, packaged in Japan, and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2014.
