Heart-shaped products do not attract me. Indeed, I’m more likely to avoid heart-shaped products. Yet, I make exceptions, like when it comes to a special Pocky flavour. And there’s all the more reason when it seeks to improve an old flavour.
This is Glico Pocky Tsubu Tsubu Strawberry. The Japanese use the words tsubu tsubu to refer to food that contained bits, and here, Pocky with strawberry bits. Each Pocky biscuit contained 28% freeze dried strawberry flakes embedded the creamy strawberry mousse enrobing it.
The freeze-dried strawberry flakes elevate this Pocky by giving it a delicious depth of flavour that’s truer to that of fresh strawberries. The strawberry flakes provide an addictive tang that cuts through the often overly sweet mousse.
This photo shows the heart-shaped Glico Pocky Tsubu Tsubu Strawberry alongside the Glico Pocky Strawberry. The dent made by the centre of the heart makes for a thicker mousse that’s very welcome.
The mousse is velvety smooth both in appearance and mouthfeel, which is in stark contrast to the grainy strawberry mousse on the Pocky produced in Thailand. I might stick to flavours produced in Japan in the future.
