Coles Finest Indulgent Hot Cross Buns Sticky Date & Butterscotch

We spotted hot cross buns on the shelves at our local Coles just two days after Christmas. It takes me by surprise every year. But they sell them and people buy them, so obviously it works. We’re part of that crowd now, even if we held off until mid-January before trying these Coles Finest Indulgent Hot Cross Buns Sticky Date & Butterscotch.

We’re fans of sticky date pudding topped with butterscotch sauce, so it was hard to pass up a sticky date and butterscotch hot cross bun.

The bun replaces the fruit and spice mix in the traditional hot cross bun with chopped dates and butterscotch sauce.

These buns are soft and tender, but they don’t quite live up to our expectations. Unfortunately, the flavour of the small pieces of chopped dates is not bold enough to stand up against the bun itself restricting the dates and butterscotch to adding only pops of sweetness and softness, rather than the flavour we love in the pudding. That said, adding any more dates and butterscotch would likely making the sweetness of the bun overwhelming.

This Coles Finest Indulgent Hot Cross Buns Sticky Date & Butterscotch contained 320 g or 4 pieces. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
