Arnott’s did some serious research into the Tim Tam Slam in 2018, discovering that while 50% of Australians know about the Tim Tam Slam, only 33% have actually tried it. So armed with these statistics, Arnott’s released a series of three flavours designed specifically for slamming. As for what the ‘cult ritual’ involves, Arnott’s explains:
The popular snacking ritual involves biting the diagonal corners off the Tim Tam, dipping the bottom corner in a warm beverage and sipping the hot liquid and the melted filling of the biscuit through the gap in the top corner before slamming the whole thing in the mouth for an explosion of chocolate, cream and biscuit.
This Arnott’s Tim Tam Slams Choc Malt and Sticky Caramel. Each biscuit is 7 x 3 x 1.5 cm and composed of milk chocolate enrobing two malt flavoured chocolate biscuits that sandwich two strips of malt flavoured buttercream with a centre strip of sticky caramel sauce.

There’s a malty aroma that came through just as prominently when eaten as an ordinary biscuit, giving an overall flavour of eating a Mars Malteser with a generous malty dose of Horlicks powder. We enjoy the malt flavour through the biscuit and buttercream, which build to a mellow sweetness before the sticky caramel centre that helps the malty flavour shine and leaves the chocolate in the background. On its own, this is easily one of our favourite Tim Tams.
However, we’re part of the 66% of Australians who’d not tried the Tim Tam Slam. We try it with a long black Nespresso Dharkan and the result is such a soggy mess that it’s not worth the effort. There was never doubt that this choc-malt-caramel combination would pair well with the bitter notes of coffee, but it’s more practical to take bites between sips of coffee unless you’re keen for mushy, melting biscuits that fall apart.
This Arnott’s Tim Tam Slams Choc Malt & Sticky Caramel Flavour contained 175 g or 9 biscuits. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
