Dondoyaki Kabosu Daifuku

Kabosu is a citrus fruit popular in Japan and produced in most areas of Ōita Prefecture where there are 200-year-old trees.

Each box contained 15 pieces of daifuku.

Each daifuku uses kabosu juice and around 3 cm in diameter. The green colour of each daifuku resembles the unripe fruit itself (and turns yellow if left to ripen) with its shape recalling the slightly swollen doughnut shape at its apex where the pistil has fallen off, while the yellow centre resembles the colour of the flesh in the fresh fruit.

The mochi is pillowy soft and smooth with a hint of kabosu flavour and gentle sweetness, while the firmer, thicker white bean filling inside has a prominent kabosu flavour that has the zesty sharpness of the fresh fruit. Overall, the mellow kabosu flavour and balanced sweetness of these daifuku in contrast to the sharp acidity of the fresh fruit surprised us and make them enjoyable to eat.

This Dondoyaki Kabosu Daifuku contained 15 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Beppu, Japan in 2019.
