This Koyomi Highball Yuzu and Lime is part of a subsidiary brand for Suntory that introduced popular Japanese chu hai to the Australian market at an accessible (although still much inflated) price at $6.50 for 250 ml. It’s flavoured using natural ingredients and contained 4.2% alcohol.
The beverage was a transparent light green colour with a sweet limeade aroma and a mild carbonation. Served chilled, fresh notes of lime juice came through at the head before a gentle sweetness developed in the body to give the mouthfeel of a dry limeade. Subtly zesty notes of yuzu emerged in the finish with a gentle bitterness that gave the only hint that this is an alcoholic beverage ahead of a clean finish. This is a refreshing alcoholic beverage that’s sophisticated in its blend of yuzu and lime flavours as well as its restraint in sweetness and bitterness, making it dangerously easy to drink.
