This is the Ito En Oi Ocha Houjicha, an unsweetened green tea roasted over charcoal.
The tea was a clear golden brown colour with a mellow roasted aroma. Served chilled, a gentle sweetness came through initially as the roasted notes developed to a bright prominence in the body. The finish saw a mild astringency and fleeting bitterness that lingered briefly before leaving a clean aftertaste. Overall, the tea had a very smooth mouthfeel and medium body with minimal bitterness, making it enjoyable for anybody sensitive to bitter flavours.
