This is the Brown Sugar Deerioca & Fresh Milk ($6.60, regular size, fixed sweetness, no ice) from The Alley LuJiaoXiang. It’s the most basic drink in their deerioca line up, being fresh milk and brown sugar pearls as a topping. This isn’t a beverage that we’d usually order ourselves, but we had the opportunity to try it when the shopkeeper took our orders incorrectly and we weren’t too fussed by it.
Consumed chilled, the milk was lightly sweetened with a creamy richness that made it evident that fresh milk, rather than creamer, has been used. Milk can be purchased easily elsewhere, so the drink’s purpose seemed to be to highlight The Alley’s superior brown sugar pearls, which were chewy and bouncy with a rich sweetness, and easily some of the best pearls offered by the bubble tea offerings in Sydney. While we enjoyed the pearls, the drink did confirm that we prefer the tea-based offerings.
This Brown Sugar Deerioca & Fresh Milk was purchased from The Alley LuJiaoXiang in Sydney, Australia in March 2021.
