This is the Koikeya Kyūshū Karamacho Sweet and Spicy Chilli Tomato. They’re potato chips are flavoured using whole tomatoes grown in Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan, and of course, endorsed by Kumamon.
The chips had a sweet tomato aroma and are dusted in an orange-red seasoning. Upon tasting, bold notes of tomato came through with a punchy acidity that was balanced by a vibrant sweetness in the body before the gentle heat of the chilli emerged in the finish. We thoroughly enjoyed the brightness of the tomato flavour, which retained a distinctly savoury flavour profile for the chips. The heat from the chilli built on eating subsequent chips to a decent warmth that was enjoyable yet did not slow us down. We’re fans of these chips.
