Almost every snack in Japan comes in multiple flavours. There are the standard flavours (think Salad Pretz and Chocolate Pocky) and there’ll also be regional and limited flavours. Like this Calbee Jagariko Yuzu Salt, which came out in the second half of 2015.

Calbee Jagariko Yuzu Salt is a potato snack with the crunchiness of kettle cooked potato chips in the shape of French Fries and seasoned with the uplifting citrus flavour of yuzu and moreishness of salt. As with all Jagariko, the sticks were about the length of a finger and the thickness of a pencil and come in a sealed paper cup, here decorated with illustrations of yuzu.

The yuzu flavour wasn’t strong in these Jagariko, with the initial flavour being a salt flavoured kettle cooked potato chip. Once you’ve given it some munching, though, a delicious yuzu flavour – a subtle uplifting bitterness like the rind – came through. This yuzu flavour lingered and builds up in your mouth as you munch your way through the rest of the cup. They are addictively crunchy and delicious!

This Calbee Jagariko Yuzu Salt was a limited edition from September 2015 to January 2016. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Okayama, Japan in 2015.
