In early 2023, Smith’s launched five chip flavours in collaboration with Red Rooster, Max Mex and Subway. This is the Smith’s Potato Chips Taste Icons Subway Meatball Sub.
The crinkle-cut chips were coated in an orange-coloured seasoning and emitted a meaty aroma with a faint tang of mayonnaise. Upon tasting, the initial bite unveiled a robust meaty flavour that developed into a mild cheese undertone in the mid-section, accompanied by the bright, sweet acidity of tomato. The overall flavour was reminiscent of the Pringles Spaghetti Bolognese Flavour or Glico Pretz Chou Kari Kari Crispy Pizza, though it placed less emphasis on the piquant qualities of Parmesan cheese found in those options. Nevertheless, these chips left a remarkably enduring aftertaste, which lingered on the palate for hours even after attempts to cleanse it with carbonated beverages. While the flavour experience was enjoyable, the persistent aftertaste alone led us to decide against repurchasing this particular variety.
