Nagatanien Umeboshi Chazuke

Ochazuke, a traditional Japanese dish, offers a blend of hot green tea poured over rice and savoury toppings. This is the Nagatanien Umeboshi Chazuke.

Each package contained 8 sachets.

Each sachet contained flavoured granules containing a blend of salt, rice crackers, sugar, MSG, dried seaweed, green tea powder as well as freeze-dried pickled plum.

Preparation involved placing 100 g of cooked rice into a bowl, adding a packet of the seasoning, and then pouring 150 ml of boiling water.

The freeze-dried ume bits rehydrated, imparting a well-balanced pulpy sourness that complemented the deep, savory umami from the green tea and seaweed in the Nagatanien Ochazuke Nori. The addition of shiso provided a refreshing herbaceous brightness with its sharp taste. The crispy rice crackers contributed a delightful crunch, enhancing the overall texture of the dish. Despite its intricate flavours, the green tea remained subtly in the background, allowing the other elements to take the spotlight. This created a comforting and satisfying experience, elevating the tastes and textures of the original with the elegant twist of ume and shiso.

This Nagatanien Umeboshi Chazuke contained 32 g (6 g x 8 packets). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2023.
