Hachijōjima is a volcanic island nestled within Tōkyō Prefecture, positioned in the Philippine Sea approximately 287 km south of Tōkyō’s special wards. Notably recognized for its hachijō lemon, the island boasts lemons larger than the conventional variety. Distinguished by their subdued sourness and palatable peel, these lemons are consumed with their skin due to the reduced bitterness it holds.
This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Hachijō Lemon, a product that utilized the juice extracted from the hachijō lemon.
Each gummy piece exhibits an opaque, vibrant yellow hue, measuring about 3 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, while exuding a fresh, sweet citrus aroma. Upon tasting, a delicate dusting of fine sugar brought forth an initial burst of sweetness and crunch. Upon biting through the robust outer layer, the gummy provided a satisfying balance of bounce and toothsome resistance. The firm texture gradually released the flavour of lemon oils, perceptible through the faint numbing sensation on the tongue. Progressing to the tender jelly core, a mild sweetness enveloped the palate with the flavour of succulent lemons. As the gummy melted away, a gentle sourness emerged, elegantly complementing the lemon oils and juice. These gummies masterfully captured the subdued sourness and controlled bitterness of the fragrant Hachijō lemon.
