are a limited edition flavour appearing in Coles supermarkets in mid 2016, around the same time Arnott’s Tim Tam Toffee Apple appeared in Woolworths supermarkets. They’re described as ‘a delicious combination of crunchy biscuits and banana flavoured cream covered in milk chocolate’.
Opening the packaging releases the potent smell of the artificial banana-like notes flavouring candy from childhood. I’ve since found out that this artificial – monotonic and saccharine – taste occurs naturally in a less popular species of banana, the Gros Michel, but I can only conclude that those bananas must themselves also taste artificial, quite removed from the real fresh bananas from the supermarket.
But back to the Tim Tam. The banana flavour was pleasant, despite its artificiality, and pairs well with the crunchy and crumbly chocolate biscuit, reminding one of the choc-banana Chupa Chups of childhood. A slight saltiness from the biscuit towards the end of the bite cuts through the sweetness well. So much like the Toffee Apple Tim Tam, I’d be happy to eat these again, but they’re not so tasty that I’d repurchase.
