This is the Bourbon x Nippon Yell Fettuccine Gumi Premium Aomori Sekai Ichi Apple. It was part of the Nippon Yell project and used juice (6.2% or 3.1 g) from sekai ichi apples grown in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
Sekai ichi (lit. ‘world’s number one’) is a Japanese cultivar of apples so named because it was advertised as the world’s largest apple when it was first released, averaging 30 to 46 centimetres in circumference and weighing around 900 grams. A cross between Red Delicious and Golden Delicious, these apples are characterised by their slightly sour taste and firm sweetness, though they do not have the same crispness as some other apple varieties.

Measuring approximately 4.5 x 1.2 x 0.5, each gummy was a golden yellow hue and coated in sour crystals. A rich apple juice aroma immediately filled the air on opening the package. Upon tasting, the sour crystals provided initial sourness on contact and a subtle crunch with each chew. The apple flavour began from the first chew, offering a mellow sweetness that developed into an increasingly rich apple flavour on every subsequent chew. Emerging sour notes added complexity to the body, with the apple flavour continuing to intensify before culminating in a delectably juicy finish. The unique al dente texture provided a satisfyingly clean, yet sufficiently long, chew that did not adhere to one’s teeth. With their intensely fresh apple juice flavour, these gummies lived up to their premium claim and proved worthy of repurchasing.
This Bourbon x Nippon Yell Fettuccine Gumi Premium Aomori Sekai Apple contained 50 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hong Kong in 2023.
