Nissin Foods Cup Noodles Tom Yum Goong

This is the Nissin Foods Cup Noodles Tom Yum Goong.

The noodles featured a noodle cake accompanied by dehydrated toppings of shrimp, egg, vegetables (green onion, coriander), dehydrated chilli, as well as coconut cream powder, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, lemongrass, shallot, garlic, lime oil.

After rehydrating the noodles with boiling water up to the designated line inside the cup for 3 minutes, the soup base transformed into an opaque orange hue. It emitted a fragrant aroma, notably featuring tomato and lemongrass. The soup base had a slight viscosity, allowing it to evenly coat the al dente noodles with each bite.

Upon tasting, the broth presented a bright flavour profile, with lemongrass dominating the taste with its herbaceous sharpness. However, there was a notable absence of the signature presence of galangal and shrimp flavour typically found in tom yum soups. Importantly, only the few pieces of dehydrated shrimp added any shrimp flavour, and the coconut cream failed to deliver any discernible nutty depth or meaningful creaminess, although the coriander contributed a subtle citrusy quality to each bite. Despite these shortcomings, the broth was notably more flavorful than most others flavours in the Nissin Cup Noodles series from China. Although it didn’t quite capture the essence of a traditional tom yum soup, it was an enjoyable flavour overall. However, it couldn’t compete with the Mama Tom Yum Noodles, which excel in both flavourful broth and noodle texture.
