This is the Calbee Jagabee Light Salt, a snack made by frying natural-cut potatoes.
Each box contained sealed portions of 15 g (compared to 18 g in 2016) and is illustrated with the brand’s mascot alongside a positive phrase, such as “yoroshiku ne” or “itsumo arigatō.”
Each chip had a light yellow hue and about 0.8 cm thick, with irregular lengths, evident from the visible potato skins on some chips. They had a lightly savoury potato aroma. Upon tasting, the chips had an intense, crispy texture, resembling a french fry yet crunchy throughout. The fine salt highlighted the rich potato flavour of the chip, reminiscent of what one might imagine a freeze-dried potato chip would taste like. The variety of potato used contributed to a smooth texture in the finish. The portion size in each bag is barely enough to sate our appetite for these delicious crispy potato chips.
