Katsuo-ji, located in Minō, Ōsaka, is known as the “temple for winner’s luck” and is covered in daruma dolls, symbols of good fortune. The temple collaborated with UHA Mikakutō to create daruma-shaped gummies to “deliver the power of winner’s luck to people all over the country who can’t make it” to the temple.
This is the UHA Mikakutō x Katsuo-ji Kachi Gumi. Officially peach-flavoured, it contains both peach and apple juice.
Each gummy had a translucent pink hue, about 1.5 cm in diameter and 0.8 cm in height, in the shape of a daruma, with its features subtly imprinted on the surface, matching the packaging with the daruma and the character for “win.”
The gummy had a juicy aroma of yellow peaches, with a tough chew comparable to a 4.5-5 out of 5 on Meiji’s scale of softness to toughness. A few chews were sufficient to release the peach flavour, which had a mellow sweetness and vibrant sourness by mid-bite, recalling the more acidic tartness of yellow peaches rather than the sweeter floral qualities of white peaches commonly found in Japanese gummies. Overall, the brightness of the juicy peach flavour and the chewy toughness of these gummies made them worth repurchasing.
This UHA Mikakutō x Katsuo-ji Kachi Gumi contained 25 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
