This is the Assi Hot & Spicy Udon Noodle Bowl.
Each bowl included a sealed cake of fresh udon, along with sachets of soup powder, flakes (onion, green onion, mushroom, bok choy, and carrot), and chilli powder. To prepare, the noodles, soup base, and flakes were emptied into the bowl, which was then filled with room-temperature water and microwaved for 3 minutes before serving.
The prepared bowl had a distinct garlicky and oniony aroma, reminiscent of kimchi and gochujang. The udon noodles were tender and retained a good bite, comparable to stove-top preparation, and decent carriers of the soup. The soup base’s aroma carried through to the taste, offering rich garlicky and oniony soy notes, accompanied by a satisfying and enjoyable heat. However, after adding the chilli powder sachet, the spice level escalated to an eye-watering intensity for me, though it remained manageable for D. The flakes provided a variety of textures and adhered well to the noodles. Overall, this was a satisfying bowl of noodles with a flavourful, though not overly rich, soup, and worth repurchasing.
