This is the MonJay Mezza Authentic Mediterranean Dip Eggplant. This dip contained 66% eggplant, along with tahini, garlic, salt, vegetable oil, and citric acid.

It had an opaque grey-beige hue with visible specks of yellow (eggplant seeds) and black (eggplant skin). The aroma was predominantly nutty from the sesame, without any notable smokiness. On tasting, the eggplant flavour was immediate, with small cubes of eggplant adding texture and a mild smokiness. However, an initial savoury quality intensified mid-bite, followed by a mellow acidity and a pronounced bitterness. This bitterness, which is typically mitigated by soaking eggplant in salt, was likely emphasised by the charring from grilling. The dip was overly salty and bitter on its own, lacking the freshness of the Aldi Deli Originals Fresh Mediterranean Style Dip Eggplant. To be palatable, it needed something sweet—such as cherry tomatoes rather than cucumbers—to counteract the bitterness.
This MonJay Mezza Authentic Mediterranean Dip Eggplant contained 200 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
