Slathering an unhealthy amount of butter on toast is one of my guilty pleasures. It tastes amazing to me but the amount of butter I use horrifies D. It’s an occasional indulgence, though, so I always prepare it just the way I enjoy it when I do indulge. And here, we have Glico Pretz Butter.
These Pretz are aimed at children, so they’re slightly shorter than the standard size Pretz. Each biscuit stick has a butter glaze with none of the visible dusting of seasoning you’d usually find.
These Pretz smell sweet, and on tasting there’s a savoury buttery flavour as if the biscuit sticks have been brushed with a salted butter before baking. The butter flavour was restrained and adds a pleasant flavour to the otherwise plain biscuits, much like butter on plain toast. The butter flavour appears only briefly in the first moments of the bite before the toasty baked flavour of the biscuit dominates with a gentle sweetness.
These Pretz are as close as you’d likely get to ‘plain’ Pretz. I’d enjoy a richer butter flavour but milder flavours are a common feature of Pretz that are targeted at children who generally have a more sensitive palate.
