Akagi Garigari-kun Strawberry

This is the Akagi Garigari-kun Strawberry, an ice dessert popsicle containing 22% juice and purée from strawberries.

The popsicle presented in a rectangular prism shape with a rounded end, measuring approximately 10 × 3 × 2 cm, with a vibrant red hue. The structure appeared layered between a thin outer ice shell and a more aerated kakigōri-style interior. Aroma opened with a rich strawberry sweetness supported by a bright jam-like tartness.

Initial contact delivered a concentrated strawberry flavour through the outer 1–2 mm shell, which bit cleanly with a firm icy fracture. The flavour carried a vivid sweet–tart balance, bright in strawberry character with a light but controlled acidity. As the shell yielded, the texture shifted into a softer kakigōri-like interior composed of fine ice crystals with a lighter, more aerated structure.

Through the mid-palate, the strawberry profile became more restrained within the interior layer, creating a gradual reduction in flavour intensity rather than an abrupt transition. This contrast between the denser outer shell and crumbly interior produced a clear structural progression, with the slower melting exterior helping to carry the lighter interior across the palate. Despite the reduced concentration through the centre, the brightness of the strawberry flavour maintained balance and prevented the profile from becoming watery. Towards the finish, the sharper strawberry acidity softened into a cleaner sweetness, while the fine ice crystals dissolved quickly with minimal residue.

Overall, an ice dessert popsicle with a descending strawberry flavour progression and well integrated structural contrast between dense outer shell and aerated ice crystal interior, resulting in a balanced and highly refreshing strawberry profile.

This Akagi Garigari-kun Strawberry contained 336 mL (56 mL x 6). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
