Growing up in Australia, cream soda referred always to a bright red soft drink with berry flavours. It turns out traditional cream soda is a light golden brown colour with vanilla flavour. Red cream soda remains more popular, but we locate this Schweppes Traditionals Brown Cream Soda.
The beverage was well-carbonated, as Schweppes soft drinks tend to be, and a translucent dark brown colour. Its flavour was a bold vanilla through and through, from the head of the first sip to the aftertaste, with a pleasant creamy mouthfeel and balanced sweetness. There’s not much depth or complexity to the flavour of the drink, but I enjoyed it nonetheless although it’s not one I’d go for ordinarily as I prefer a sharper note to add depth to the flavour and to counter the sweetness.
It’s just as well as the general sale of this cream soda is confined to Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, so it saves having to look for it in independent supermarkets in New South Wales.
This Schweppes Traditionals Brown Cream Soda contained 1.25 litres and was purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
