Nitro cold brew coffee distinguishes itself from other coffees by being cold brew coffee charged with nitrogen to extract its sweet flavours, giving a smooth finish and a rich, velvety crema similar to nitro draft beer. And this is Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew.
The coffee is a translucent brown-black colour with a roasted cereal aroma. Consumed chilled and unsweetened, the same roasted cereal notes came through mellow with a gentle bitterness developing in the body followed by the slightest hint of acidity — detectable but not identifiable as the usual fruitiness — in the finish. As with cold brew, the coffee had a restrained bitterness even when black and unsweetened with a natural sweetness and creaminess from the nitrogen charge.
Overall, the flavour of the nitro cold brew is a pleasure but the high caffeine content makes it a very occasional coffee.
