This is the Asahi Mitsuya Cider Classic 1970. The beverage aimed to recreate the taste of Mitsuya Cider from 1970 in a modern style. The packaging features the crown of the bottle and the Mitsuya logo that were sold at the time in a large format at the top of the front.
The beverage was clear and colourless, with a sweet ramune aroma accompanied by mild carbonation. When served chilled, the robust ramune fragrance contrasted with the subtlety of the flavour. The taste revealed a gentle sweetness, surpassing that of the current Mitsuya cider, while the lime undertones were smoother and less sharp than the current Mitsuya cider. Despite its heightened sweetness, the conclusion of each sip was mellow, almost bordering on a slightly watery finish due to the weaker carbonation. This resulted in the sweetness lingering on the palate, without the typical cleansing effect of bubbles for a crisp aftertaste.
In summary, this retro cider offered an intriguing experience, but our preference leans towards the sharper notes found in the contemporary version.
