This is the Naked Life Yuzu Sake, which was awarded a bronze medal at the 2021 Melbourne International Spirits Competition. This yuzu sake mocktail blends the flavour of Japanese sake with yuzu, ‘top noted with distilled orange blossom botanicals’.
The mocktail was transparent and colourless with a slightly acidic, mellow yuzu aroma. Served chilled, sour notes of yuzu came through zesty and bright at the head of each sip before the flavour rounded out in the body with a gentle sweetness and fragrant floral quality from the orange blossom. The sip had a well-balanced sweetness that was just enough to restrain the acidity of the yuzu, while the overall mouthfeel had a certain dryness (possibly from the artificial sweetener) that recalled a yuzu sake without the bitterness of the alcohol. The addition of the orange blossom gave the drink more depth than the simple enjoyment of the Capi Yuzu Fruit Soda, but we preferred the unapologetic yuzu flavour of the latter.
