Kikkoman Soy Drink Low Sugar Malt Coffee

This is the Kikkoman Soy Drink Low Sugar Malt Coffee, featuring a soy milk base with roasted barley and coffee flavours. It contained 4$ soy bean solids.

The beverage presented with an opaque tan hue. Initial contact delivered rich roasted barley notes with a notable toasted grain quality, transitioning to mellow roasted coffee. These flavours were accompanied by an intense sweetness that took me by surprise given the low-sugar content claim. This was attributable to the artificial sweeteners, which left an unpleasant aftertaste lingering on the palate alongside the coffee notes. The sweetness was comparable to, if not more intense than, Kikkoman’s regular sugar-sweetened soy milk beverages, making the low-sugar positioning difficult to reconcile with the actual taste. The lingering aftertaste detracted from the roasted flavour profile, making this not worth purchasing.

Overall, a soy-based coffee beverage with a transition from toasted grain to roasted coffee, undermined by intense sweetness and a persistent artificial sweetener aftertaste.

This Kikkoman Soy Drink Low Sugar Malt Coffee contained 200 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia, in 2026.
