This is the Hishidai Afternoon Tea Chardonnay.
The blend comprised black tea scented with chardonnay fragrance.
Steeping a 3 g tea bag in 200 mL of water at 85°C for three minutes produced a clear, deep red-brown infusion. The aroma was distinctly muscat-driven, with floral and lightly tropical notes rising immediately from the cup.
When consumed hot, the first impression of each sip was led by fragrance rather than flavour. The muscat character appeared most prominently on the nose, while on the palate it was more restrained. The underlying black tea asserted itself with steady confidence, carrying mellow bitterness and a soft, controlled astringency through to the finish. It was pleasant and technically sound, though it lacked the brightness and aromatic lift found in comparable flavoured blends from Lupicia.
Overall, this was a competent, fragrance-led black tea where the scented top notes sat gently above a conventional, steady base.
