This is the Suntory Iyemon Aburi Ichiban Cha. Made with first-grade tea, this release highlights leaves rich in aromatic compounds, roasted across varying intensities to produce layered fragrance and flavour.
The tea had a semi-opaque golden-green hue with a refined roasted aroma carrying a faint sweetness, strongly evocative of roasted chestnuts. Served chilled, the flavour opened with gentle sweet, almost fruity top notes, developing into fragrant nutty mid notes before finishing with a fleeting grassy bitterness. The interplay between sweetness, nuttiness, and a light vegetal edge created a nuanced spread of aroma that remained coherent and balanced. The chestnut-like roasted hōjicha character lingered most strongly, leaving a pleasant aftertaste without heaviness.
Overall, a refined roasted green tea with depth and balance, and one worth repurchasing.
This Suntory Iyemon Aburi Ichiban Cha contained 600 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
