Donut Papito is Donut Papi’s pop-up shop that has been around since mid-September, 2020.

The pop-up shop offers exclusive treats not offered currently at their parent Redfern shop, including their tubs, cheesecakes and bombos (filled doughnuts).

This is the Pandan Bombo ($6.50), a sugar-coated doughnut filled with pandan custard.
The doughnut here is hefty — the pastry is light and fluffy with an enjoyable toothsome chew and filled to the brim with custard. The pandan custard is thick and smooth, coating the tongue without being cloying or light like whipped cream, and delivered a barely sweetened, yet bright pandan flavour that balances well with the sweetness coating the doughnut itself.

This is the Calamansi Bombo ($6.50), a sugar-coated doughnut filled with calamansi custard.
After being on a minor calamansi kick after enjoying a calamansi soda at Sizzling Filo, this doughnut drew me to try to the doughnuts at Donut Papito. The calamansi flavour delivered an enjoyable sweetness with a hint of acidity and none of the sharpness of its bolder citrus counterparts, much like the fresh fruit itself. The custard is a tinge less smooth than the pandan.

This is the Matcha and Yuzu Cheesecake ($12.00).
Here, the swirls of curd on top have the most noticeable, yet still subtle, yuzu flavour, while the yuzu base of the cheesecake has distinctly lemon notes that lack the edge of yuzu. Eaten together, though, the vegetal and gentle bitterness of the matcha does combine to allow the lemon cheesecake base to masquerade more successfully as yuzu. The cheesecake is smooth and creamy, but we’d stick to the doughnuts.
Donut Papito is located at 28 Kensington St, Chippendale NSW 2008.
