Some five years ago, the place where I was working in Woolloomooloo liked to celebrate milestones, welcomes and farewells with absolutely delicious cakes from Croissant d’Or in Potts Point. But for all the sweets I enjoyed from Croissant d’Or it wasn’t until recently that I’d visited the store itself.

The decor is much more like a Vietnamese bakery than a French patisserie, but the glass cabinets are filled with much more delectable French-inspired cakes and pastries.

We start with a Choc Chip Cookie ($3.00). It’s a soft, chewy sort of cookie with melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chunks. A tasty cookie.

Next up is the Passionfruit and Raspberry Tart ($5.50).

The passionfruit curd is deliciously bright with flavour – probably aided by passionfruit syrup – and smooth in texture, with pops of acidity added from the fresh raspberries hidden within. The pastry base is crisp and thin with no hint of sogginess from the liquid in the curd.

And this is the Lemon Tart ($5.50).

The lemon curd is generous with a smooth texture and vibrant zesty lemon flavour that’s delightfully sour sitting on a thin and crisp base. This is one of the best lemon tarts.

And for T, we take away this Apricot Danish ($5.50), which he enjoys thoroughly for its generous sweet custard and apricots and the marzipan on top.
Five years on, the pastries and cakes are every bit as good as I remember!
Coissant d’or is located at 117 MacLeay St, Potts Point NSW 2011.
