Pâtisserie Le Chocolat, Hirosaki

Pâtisserie Le Chocolat is a neighbourhood patisserie in Hirosaki. Notably, the patisserie’s apple pie has been a consistent feature in the city’s Apple Pie Guide Map and has been available since the shop’s opening.

Despite its name, only a small portion of its offerings feature chocolate as a key ingredient.

Arriving late in the afternoon, we didn’t expect to find any apple pie left after seeing an almost-empty display cabinet, save for a boxed whole pie. To our delight, the staff informed us that individual portions were still available in the back.

Apple Pie (¥432).

This apple pie, made with Jonathan apples, was served cold. The pie crust had a flaky, crisp, and buttery texture, enhanced by a slightly sticky-sweet glaze that extended to the caramelised apples. The apples retained a pleasant firmness, with a moderate sweetness (3/5) and a refreshing, bright tartness (4/5). A subtle cinnamon note added a gentle warmth and liveliness. The balance of textures and flavours was excellent, making this a pie we would happily enjoy again.

Pâtisserie Le Chocolat is located at 17-1 Okachimachi, Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture 036-8034, Japan.
