Hong Ha in Mascot is often cited as one of the top three venues in Sydney for bánh mì thịt, which made a visit feel almost obligatory.

Pork Roll ($9.00)
The aroma set appropriate expectations, but the execution fell short in both texture and balance. The slices of pork were sparse, with pâté present and delivering a moderate savoury note, yet the absence of sufficient mayonnaise left the filling lacking the creamy cohesion typically expected, even with the addition of soy sauce. The cucumber was thinly sliced and soft, missing the crunch usually provided by thicker cuts. The daikon was notably absent, and the carrot appeared under-pickled, offering little of the acidity that should refresh the palate. The bread itself was crisp and not overly dense, holding its shape well and providing reasonable structure.

Crispy Pork Roll ($12.00)
The roast pork was better seasoned and more flavourful, with tender meat that lifted the roll overall. While the skin was no longer truly crisp, the pork contributed more textural interest and depth, making this the stronger of the two options. However, the roll suffered from poor structural integrity, with the filling overwhelming the bread.
Neither roll proved particularly satisfying, especially given the pricing, and both compared unfavourably with Marrickville Pork Roll and Bánh Mì Phương 18.
