This Iwatsuka Seika Otona no Otsumami Ebikari was a collaboration with Sapporo Curry Yoshimi, a local restaurant famous for its soup curry. The rice crackers have shrimp embedded into the dough and are seasoned using an original garam masala blend of spices.
Each bag contained 5 individually sealed packs, with each containing a mix of rice crackers and peanuts.
Upon tasting the crackers, a gentle sweetness at the head of each bite emerged before crunching through the cracker released a subtle rice flavour ahead of the spices return swiftly for a rich and aromatic curry flavour with a mellow hint of ebi oceanic sweetness. A mild heat developed in the finish from the spices and lingered pleasantly in the finish along with a mild curry flavour.
The addition of the peanuts added a different crunch than that of the crackers with its nuttiness pairing well with the curry and resetting the palate between each senbei to allow each senbei to have the same bold hit of flavour. While the presence of the peanuts took us by surprise, it made sense as senbei were targetted as adults and would work well as a snack to accompany alcohol.
Overall, these rice crackers were very enjoyable with a bold and addictive shrimp curry flavour.
