Nestlé KitKat Otona no Amasa Black is another KitKat with a ‘rich and genuine’ flavour made specifically for the adult palate.

A higher cocoa content is used for the chocolate enrobing these dark brown – almost black – bars.

A bite of this KitKat reveals a dark chocolate on the outside that’s barely sweetened but still melts in your mouth. It’s probably somewhere around the 70% cocoa content mark (you lose any trace of that enjoyable melt-in-your-mouth quality by 86%, I’ve recently discovered; it tastes like cardboard). The darkness gave a more bitter initial flavour, but this sweetens quickly as you reach the milk chocolate cream sandwiching the two wafers. It’s an immensely enjoyable KitKat that leaves a clean mouthfeel of dark chocolate with a subtle sweetness, a step up from the more cloying qualities of milk chocolate.

And of course, made all the more enjoyable by having a somewhat complex papercraft model to assemble.

The box of Nestlé KitKat Otona no Amasa Black contained 10 mini bars and a paper craft model for the D51498 steam locomotive. It was manufactured in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2014.
