The UHA Mikakutō Cororo Grape is a mainstay flavour along with muscat. They are, after all, the fruits from which the appearance and texture of the candy find its inspiration. These UHA Mikakutō Cororo Blueberry take on the same format and were a limited flavour that’s since been replaced by rockmelon.
Unlike the grape and muscat flavours, these Cororo do not use 100% fruit juice. Instead, the flavour was distinguished by the addition of chia seeds.
These Cororo were a dark blue colour with an artificial aroma that recalled blue raspberry or blueberry-flavoured jelly. Biting through the membrane released a similar intense blue raspberry flavour, but past this initial intensity, the flavour mellowed somewhat and still vibrant sweet-sour notes of blueberries became apparent in the body. The chia seeds added a plump and soft texture, while the surrounding gummy melted to a thick, smooth texture towards the finish and left no aftertaste. So, while the Cororo didn’t resemble the appearance of fresh blueberry, the membrane did recall the skin and the gummy, the flesh, to an extent.
This UHA Mikakutō Cororo Blueberry contained 10 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Okayama, Japan in 2015.
