Flavours for many mainstream snacks in Japan are tailored specifically to an adult palate that prefers things less sweet and more rich, bitter or sour. Glico Japan has its Glico Pocky Otona no Miruku and Nestle has its Otona no Amasa KitKat series, which translates literally to “Sweetness of Adults’.
First up here in that series is Nestlé KitKat Otona no Amasa Raspberry, a white chocolate flavoured with raspberry juice with freeze-dried raspberry throughout enrobing wafers that sandwich a layer of freeze-dried raspberry cream. (Do forgive the battered appearance of the KitKat, as it barely survived the few days it was left in room temperature during our scorching Sydney summers before finding refuge in the fridge.)

This KitKat is packed with raspberry flavour. The raspberry juice gave the KitKat its initial sweetness as it melts. That’s quickly followed by the refreshing acidity of the freeze-dried raspberry dusted throughout the white chocolate, and then the hit from the very tart freeze-dried raspberry cream sandwiched between the wafers. As the tartness dissipates, the sweetness of the raspberry white chocolate creeps back to leave you with the perfect aftertaste that’s neither too sweet nor tart.
The mini-bar of Nestlé KitKat Otona no Amasa Raspberry was manufactured in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2014.
