Gotcha Darjeeling Milk Tea

This is the Darjeeling Milk Tea from Gotcha ($10.00 for 2 drinks promotion, 70% sweetness, no ice, +$0.00.85 for honey pearls). The beverage had an opaque tan hue and a fragrant, fruity black milk tea aroma.

Consumed chilled, the Darjeeling notes appeared immediately, carrying their characteristic champagne-like fragrance before deepening into the body with a rich, almost chocolatey character. The milk base provided a creamy mouthfeel that complemented the tea well. Towards the finish, this richness receded, allowing the Darjeeling black tea to assert itself with a vibrant, fruity lightness that became more prominent in the second half of the sip without bitterness or astringency. The honey pearls, however, were white pearls mixed with honey rather than the more typical chewy tapioca pearls. Their firmer, bitey texture felt mismatched with the creaminess of the milk tea, and the honey’s sweetness dominated the balance, leaving the drink overly sweet. Black tapioca pearls would have provided better synergy with the tea base.

Overall, this milk tea offered a distinctive tea profile and is worth repurchasing with adjustments, particularly a switch to black pearls and reduced sweetness.

This Darjeeling Milk Tea was purchased from Gotcha in Sydney, Australia in September 2025.
