
This is the Umenoyado Aragoshi Yuzushu, an unpasteurised yuzu sake from Nara Prefecture.
The beverage presented with an opaque off-white hue. Aroma opened with vibrant floral citrus notes of yuzu, supported by a sweet citrus character and moderate aromatic intensity.
Served on the rocks, initial contact delivered an immediate burst of bright yuzu acidity. The citrus profile was highly expressive, combining zesty freshness with the distinctive floral character that differentiates yuzu from other citrus fruits. Despite the initial intensity, the beverage avoided becoming aggressively sour, with the acidity providing structure rather than dominance. Texture was smooth and evenly coating across the palate without becoming syrupy or heavy.
Through the mid-palate, a soft sweetness emerged and gradually expanded, balancing the lively acidity. The interplay between sweet and tart elements became the defining characteristic of the drink, with neither component overwhelming the other. The cloudy texture contributed a gentle richness that gave the beverage greater body than a typical citrus liqueur, while maintaining a clean and highly drinkable profile. Flavour remained firmly centred on the yuzu, allowing its floral and aromatic qualities to remain prominent throughout.
Towards the finish, the sweetness and acidity converged into a refreshing sweet-tart resolution. Subtle ethanol warmth became apparent alongside a faint bitterness, providing just enough structure to remind one that the beverage was alcoholic without introducing harshness. Aftertaste carried lingering floral citrus notes and gentle sweetness, while the palate remained remarkably clean with minimal residual coating.

Overall, a citrus liqueur with a converging flavour trajectory and cohesive texture integration, resulting in a vibrant balance of bright yuzu acidity, floral aromatics and restrained sweetness.
This Umenoyado Aragoshi Yuzushu was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia from Kuro ($14.00 per glass in 2022) and Mikazuki ($15.50 per glass in 2026).
