This is the Akagi Garigari-kun Ripe Banana, a popsicle targeted at adults and made with 54% banana purée, 22% of which is sourced from ripe bananas grown in the highlands of the Philippines.

It featured a yellow-hued outer shell encasing a white interior, visually reminiscent of a peeled banana. Each bar measured approximately 8 × 5 × 2 cm.

On tasting, the exterior shell—about 5 mm thick—provided a crisp, icy bite that quickly softened to a slightly chewy texture evocative of banana flesh. The shell delivered an intense, aromatic sweetness characteristic of ripe banana, while the interior revealed the fine ice crystals typical of kakigōri-style texture. Despite this, the interior remained unexpectedly creamy, with a gentler, more balanced banana flavour—less overtly ripe yet still rich and tropical. The combination achieved a nuanced layering of sweetness and aroma, culminating in a clean finish free from astringency.
Overall, this was an impressively executed frozen dessert, capturing the depth of ripe banana with a refined sweetness and satisfying texture contrast. A memorable and highly enjoyable iteration of banana as a frozen treat—well worth repurchasing.
This Akagi Garigari-kun Ripe Banana contained 100 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
