Aldi Biocult Probiotic Drink Blueberry

This is the Aldi Biocult Probiotic Drink Blueberry, a seasonal variation from the strawberry flavour of previous years. It achieved its blueberry flavour from artificial flavouring and its colour from black carrot juice. Each bottle contained 63 million CFU of lactobacillus paracasei.

The beverage was an opaque pastel purple hue, with a sweet yet sharp aroma reminiscent of blackcurrant rather than blueberry. Upon tasting, the berry flavour was more mellow than in the aroma and recalled the Tamar Valley Blueberries & Cream Yoghurt, containing blueberries, blueberry juice, and ‘natural flavours’. However, without a clear identification as blueberry flavour or the association with blueberry yogurt, the musky tartness of the berry profile made it more immediately akin to a blackcurrant pastille. That tartness was softer than the strawberry version, yet still harmonized well with the probiotic drink’s natural tang. Overall, we enjoyed the flavour of this variation, yet preferred the fresher flavour of the natural flavouring in the strawberry version.

This Aldi Biocult Probiotic Drink Blueberry contained 315 mL (5 x 63 mL). It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
