We picked up this Coles Beef Brisket Kiev With Bolognese Sauce after trying the Ingham’s Stuffed Chicken Breast Pizza. It contained 49% beef brisket and 23% bolognese sauce.

The size of each kiev in the tray is not uniform but averages around 12 cm in length and 4 cm in diameter. They’re prepared by baking in a fan-forced oven at 170°C for 23 minutes. We use an air-fryer, cooking at the same temperature at half the time.

Fresh from the oven, the kiev has a golden brown crust that holds its shape without oozing sauce. As is contrary to almost every promotional image for kiev, the sauce is very much liquid and does not stay inside the kiev on cutting it open, meaning the meal itself involves mopping up the sauce with rings of beef brisket. That said, the sauce is flavourful with a red wine based tomato sauce with bits of vegetables (onion and carrot) and cheese. The meat is processed, giving it shape yet retains some of its natural beef texture. Overall, the flavour of the bolognese sauce and the texture of beef brisket makes this one we’re more inclined to eat again.
