Glico Pretz Gyūtan

Japan’s Tōhoku region, and the city of Sendai specifically, is well known for its restaurants dedicated to serving grilled beef tongue so it’s no wonder that the region limited flavour of Pretz for the Tōhoku region is none other than these delicious strips of beef tongue (gyūtan)Glico Pretz Gyūtan.

These were mini boxes, so each box contained one red-brown bag rather than the usual two.

Each bag contained ~16 biscuit sticks dusted in a black-speckled seasoning containing 3% beef tongue.

The Pretz have a fragrant meaty beef aroma, while on tasting, toasty notes came through from the biscuit before a savoury and peppery beef flavour emerged in the body and developed with a smokiness that recalled the seasoning and caramelised edges of the grilled beef tongue. A savoury biscuity flavour returns in the finish before leaving a pleasant beefy flavour lingering on the palate.

This Glico Pretz Gyūtan contained 23 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Saitama, Japan in 2018.
