Glico Sunao Cream Sando Lemon & Vanilla

This is the Glico Sunao Cream Sando Lemon & Vanilla. It was a product from Glico’s Sunao line designed to reduce sugar and carbohydrates for healthier snacking. Made with soy milk and wheat germ, and rich in dietary fibre, each serving (2 biscuits, with 4.5 g of sugar each) contained less than 10 g of sugar.

The biscuits, infused with fermented butter and lemon flavour, were sandwiched together with vanilla cream. They measured 5 x 2.5 x 1.2 cm in size, with the cream layer approximately 3 mm thick.

Upon tasting, the biscuit offered a crunchy texture with mid-sized crumbs, reminiscent of light and airy butter cookies, featuring a mellow buttery flavour with a deep savoury quality (though less rich than the Morozoff Galette au Beurre Galette Classique). After biting into it, the vanilla cream melted on the palate, blending with the biscuit’s loose crumb to create a melt-in-the-mouth sensation that released the lemon flavour without making the crumbs soggy. The sweet, zesty lemon flavour lingered into the finish and persisted in the aftertaste with a subtle sweetness.

Surprisingly refreshing, the lemon flavour tasted akin to fresh lemon juice, avoiding the cloying, oily sweetness of the Always Fresh Pasticcini Petite Pastries Lemon, which we sampled but did not document. The product’s aim to reduce sugar and carbohydrate content was not evident through its taste and texture, making it a worthy choice for a healthier snack.

This Glico Sunao Cream Sando Lemon & Vanilla contained 75 g (12.5 g x 6 pieces). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
