This is the Fujiya Country Ma’am Tomioka Silk Milk, made with silk powder derived from cocoons raised by silkworm farmers in Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture. Tomioka is home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tomioka Silk Mill, Japan’s oldest modern silk reeling factory, established in 1872 to introduce French mechanised reeling techniques and disseminate that technology throughout the country. Each cookie contains 0.01% silk powder.

Each package held 12 individually sealed cookies. They were circular, approximately 3.5 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a golden base and an off-white to lightly browned surface. The aroma was gently sweet, reminiscent of white chocolate without being cloying.

On tasting, the exterior offered a light initial crunch before breaking into loose, generous crumbs. By mid-bite, these crumbs softened and melted on the palate alongside the white chocolate chips, creating a moist, creamy impression. The sweetness was measured and balanced, allowing the dairy notes of the white chocolate to come through clearly. The texture was light and airy, with a softness that felt refined—whether attributable to the silk powder or not, the overall mouthfeel was notably smooth.
Overall, these were delicious, well-balanced, and quietly elegant cookies, combining textural contrast with restrained sweetness and a polished finish.
This Fujiya Country Ma’am Tomioka Silk Milk contained 120 g (10 g x 12 cookies. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
