Health Attack Crispyfruits Pear

Freeze-dried fruits are enjoyable for their concentrated flavours and we picked up this Health Attack Crispyfruits Pear on a recent shopping trip. It boasts itself as a healthy snack for pretty much all diets, containing “0% nuts, gluten, dairy, added sugar and preservatives”. One 10 g bag is made from half a cup of pear that’s been peeled, sliced and freeze dried.

Each slice has a puffed rice aroma with a hint of sweetness. Upon tasting, the slices have an light mouthfeel but without the usual crispness of freeze-dried fruit. Rather it feels like compressed cotton candy without the prominent sweetness. The puffed rice came through at the head of each bite before slice absorbs moisture and a mellow sweet pear flavour that recalled Asian nashi or ya pears and the mouthfeel shifts to the softer Western Packham pears. The pairing of Asian pear flavour and Western pear texture is odd, but the type of pear used is not listed, alas.

This Health Attack Crispyfruits Pear contained 10 g. It was produced in China and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
